History

In 1950, after the formation of several worker producers and craft cooperatives, the need for a governing body was reached and on 10th of December 1950, at a General Conference of representatives of individual cooperatives a "Regional Union of Worker Producers and Craft Cooperatives" was established with task to organize and guide the overall activity of the member-cooperatives.

Initially, the City Union of Worker Producers` Cooperatives /CUWPC/ existed as a Regional Union of Worker Producer and Craft Cooperatives /RUWPC/, thus the cooperatives from Sofia District were members of the Union.

Based on Decree 16 / 1st of July1970 the City Union of Worker Producers` Cooperatives ceases to exist, as the management of the worker cooperatives passes to the General Directorate for communal-household services of Sofia City People's Council /SGNS/.

On 29th of November 2021, at a meeting of seven founding cooperatives, represented by their chairmen, according to the decisions of their General Assemblies, the City Union of Worker Producers` Cooperatives - Sofia was re-established.
